Cancellation of the Berlin Open 2020

With a heavy heart we have to inform you that the organizing committee of the Berlin Open had to decide in its extraordinary meeting yesterday after careful consideration to cancel the Berlin Open 2020.

After the decision of the federal government on Wednesday as part of the expansion of measures to contain the COVID-19 pandemic and amongst others to completely ban any amateur sport in Germany at least for the next four weeks and with the prospect that this situation could continue beyond the end of November, we simply no longer see any possibility of holding the Berlin Open 2020 in this form that you as active athletes but also we from the Berlin Open team are used to and that we expect.

The Berlin Open should be a great event where ambitious amateur athletes meet the elite of the German and international archery scene. The integration of the disabled archers into the event is an integral part.

The good reputation of the Berlin Open ensured that despite the COVID-19 pandemic and the personal worries associated with it the maximum number of starters allowed this year was quickly reached and the waiting list is well filled. We received almost half of the registrations from other European countries, but also from Asia and even from the USA.

Not only in Germany are we currently seeing increasing restrictions in public life. Due to the pandemic, it is the same in the countries of our international guests. Here, the measures against COVID-19 are now being ramped up again, too. In many cases this means amongst other things also restrictions on freedom of travel. In the last days we received a lot of messages in which our international guests informed us about their problems with traveling to and participating in the Berlin Open due to the latest developments.

The members of the Organizing Committee (OC) of the Berlin Open are sure that now is the right time to cancel the Berlin Open. We cannot continue to hold the Berlin Open 2020 in the hope of a possible improvement in the situation in mid-December, because you, as a registered starter need clarity for your personal planning regarding participation in the competition and therefore on your year-end´s activities.

The work of the OC itself does not end with the cancellation of the Berlin Open 2020 for this year. We will not let up with our efforts to get the above-mentioned festival of archery off the ground for you and are already directing our attention to the Berlin Open 2021.

The new date has already been set:
In the period from December 17th to 19th, 2021 we will host the Berlin Open 2021 at the well-known location and then it will be more beautiful and better than ever for you as an archery highlight at the end of the year!

All participants will receive an e-mail from us with all the necessary information. The entry fee, as well as the money for the ordered jerseys can be refunded on request or can be converted into a safe starting place for the next year, or a delivery of the shirt by mail.

With these last lines we conclude today's message. We shouldn't be too sad. The circumstances are simply against us. We all have to accept this. Let's look forward to the Berlin Open 2021, which will then be the “tenth”. We will honour the anniversary in a special way. You can be curious.
